Satire vs. Racial Profiling
In a recent article, Satire's New Home in Journalism, by Kelly McBride, Bob Steele and colleagues, they brought up an interesting discussion point. Simple put, is “The New Yorker's latest cover deeply offensive or really funny or simply accurate, depending on your point of view.” In a Web posted fact sheet by the Department of Justice, called Racial Profiling, the report condemns the usage of racial profiling during an investigation. In an age when stereotyping is considered to be offensive, and just down right inappropriate, do serious journalist, publishers and editors find this an appropriate draw of readers?
